Jakarta Casual: Second Chance For Persipura
ASIAN soccer officials are tonight expected to deliver a verdict on whether Adelaide United was in breach of the regulations after fielding Cassio last week.
Asian Football Confederation officials tonight told AdelaideNow a decision will handed down tonight .
The Brazilian featured in the club's AFC Champions League qualifier against Indonesia's Persipura last Thursday but there was a question mark hanging over his appearance.
Cassio was red carded in the club's final 2010 AFC Champions League appearance which usually means a player is suspended for the next match in the same competition.
If Cassio is deemed an ineligible player, Persipura could be handed a 3-0 win and lay claim to participating in the Champions League Group E alongside Uzebekistan's Bunyodkor, Japan's Gamba Osaka and Korea Republic's Pohang Steelers.
But Persipura would need to win the Court of Arbitration for Sport's hearing next month - on whether its standing in the Indonesian ``rebel'' league qualifies it for the AFC Champions League.
COMMENT - so we're waiting for some suits to decide whether or not Persipura or Adelaide United are breaking or have broken any rules before making a decision. Both teams could be kicked out which would be hilarious. If that happens I would love to see how people run around trying to save their precious face.
It's nonsense that Persipura were even allowed back in the competition; it's nonsense that the play off was arranged at such short notice and it's nonsense that we still see such unseemly goings on in what is supposed to be Asia's premier club competition. The AFC needs to show leadership, not ponse about with this namby pamby all things to all people.

Radja Nainggolan: The Indonesia icon Serie A have been screaming out for
The best Indonesian never to play for Indonesia?
Radja Nainggolan's breakthrough season doesn't just have Cagliari's money-men rubbing their hands - but even Serie A's marketing bosses can see new opportunities opening up thanks to the young midfielder's heroics this season.
Nainggolan has taken to Serie A football like a natural. Signed from Piacenza last summer, where he had spent the last three seasons, the 23 year-old hasn't looked out of place in Italy's top-flight and such has been his impact, the nation's biggest clubs are now following his progress. Indeed, the top three of AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli have all been mentioned as potential destinations for Nainggolan this summer.
Born in Antwerp to an Indonesian father and Belgian mother, Nainggolan has a twin sister and three half siblings - all of whom are living with their father in Bali. The family separated when Radja was six years old, with his sister following Dad back to Indonesia.
Radja stayed with his mother and soon his talent was recognised by scouts at Germinal Beerschot.
"As a child I loved playing football, even at five years of age I started with a team in my city," he says. "At 10 I moved to Germinal Beerschot and learned my football there throughout my teens.
"Finally, when 16 years old, my agent told me that an Italian club was interested in me, so I moved to Piacenza.

"Finally, when 16 years old, my agent told me that an Italian club was interested in me, so I moved to Piacenza.
"It was a dream come true: playing in Italy. At first, however, it was not easy, being just 16 years old, I found myself in a foreign country alone, but my determination allowed me to overcome these difficulties."
Nainggolan admits he's surprised himself with how he's handled stepping up from Serie B this season.
"Between Serie A and B there is an abyss both physically and in terms of tactics," he says.
"It's an honor to be coached by Roberto Donadoni, a person with a wealth of experience who can teach me much."
Former Cagliari coach Pierpaolo Bisoli admits he's a big fan of Nainggolan and believes he has the ability to play on a bigger stage.
"He's a major player," says Bisoli. "He's very strong physically and technically. He could already play for an important team like Napoli."
Nainggolan is well aware of the increased transfer rumours swirling around him, but insists he'll keep his feet on the ground.
Recently married to a local girl, the midfielder says he's happy developing his football at Cagliari under Donadoni.
"I'm happy in Cagliari and I am sure that this is the ideal place to grow and mature," he insists.
Canny Piacenza allowed Nainggolan to move to Cagliari in a co-ownership agreement and while the Sardinians have first refusal in June, there will be scope for the Serie B outfit to cash in on Nainggolan's rising star.
As there will be for Serie A's marketing men.
Nainggolan's Indonesian background is just the angle Serie A have been seeking as they battle the Premier League and Spanish Liga for attention in the Far East.
The Italians aren't sitting on their hands and have already started building on Nainggolan's increased profile in Indonesia, using him for extended interviews to help promote their TV coverage across the region.
"I was never actually born in Indonesia," laughs Nainggolan, "I grew up as a child in Antwerp. But I do plan to go there.
"I follow Asian football and I think it is changing fast, especially in Japan and South Korea - there are so many good players.
"Maybe physically they leave something to be desired, but these shortcomings are overcome with technique and speed."
Now capped by Belgium, the chance of turning out for Indonesia is gone. But Nainggolan's rapid progress guarantees a massive following for him in his father's homeland.
Cagliari president Massimo Cellino, like Serie A's TV people, knows they have something special on their hands.
"I'm willing to bet he will play for Real Madrid," declared Cellino. "He's only 23, but has great quality.

Profile: Palestine National Football Team
The Palestine national football team is the national team of the Palestinian Football Federation, representing the Palestinian National Authority. The Palestine Football Federation was founded in 1952, its successor the Palestine Football Association was recognized by FIFA in 1998, after the creation of the Palestinian Authority.
The team reached an all-time high position of 115 in the FIFA ranking system in April 2006 after seven years of progression from 191st in August 1999. Following their recognition by FIFA, the team played no official fixtures in the Palestinian Territories due to security concerns until a match on October 26, 2008 against Jordan in the newly renovated Faisal Al-Husseini International Stadium in Al-Ram north of Jerusalem, which finished in a 1–1 draw. In recognition of their efforts the Palestinian Football Federation was awarded FIFA's inaugural Development Award.
The game was originally introduced during the time of the British Mandate. Palestine has one of the oldest histories of organized football in the Middle East with evidence of the game being played at an organized level amongst Palestinians youths since at least the early 1920s. Some notable clubs during the early years of Palestinian football were Shabab Al Arab of Haifa, the Orthodox Club of Jerusalem, and Islami Yaffa. During these years, Palestinian stars, such as Jabra Al-Zarqa, George Mardeni, and Majed Assad represented an excellence that was second to none. In fact, Jabra Al-Zarqa received an offer to play for Arsenal FC while playing in the British Army's Haifa League in 1945.
The Palestine/Eretz Israel FA was formed in 1928 and joined FIFA in 1929 but at the time the association was made up of Arab clubs, Jewish clubs and clubs representing British policemen and soldiers serving in the region during the British Mandate rule that spanned the period between World War One and the independence of the state of Israel in 1948. After being phased out by the Palestine/Eretz Israel FA, Arab teams reorganized under the banner of the Arab Palestine Sports Federation which was organized in 1931 and reorganized in 1944. The qualification matches for the 1934 and 1938 World Cups were contested by a Palestine/Eretz Israel team made up exclusively of Jewish and British players.

The Jakarta Globe: Persipura Receives Raucous Reception From Home Fans
Jayapura. Newly crowned Indonesian Super League champion Persipura Jayapura received a hero’s welcome when the team arrived in Jayapura, Papua, on Tuesday morning.
Thousands of fans greeted the team at Sentani Airport, with flags and banners decorating the 43-kilometer stretch of road from Sentani to the capital, Jayapura.
Following a reception, star striker Boaz Solossa and company went on a bus-top parade around Jayapura.
“I love you Persipura,” yelled 14-year-old Raja Ambarita, who had been waiting for the team’s arrival since early that morning. “You really are the pride of Papua and have proven to be the best club in the country.”
Persipura has been a dominant force in Indonesian football since the Super League was launched in 2008, winning two league titles and finishing second once. It also has three runner-up finishes in the Copa Indonesia since 2006.
Coach Jacksen Tiago’s side has lost just twice this season, winning 16 matches and drawing two. It has scored 60 goals and conceded just 21 en route to the title, which it secured with three matches to spare with a 2-1 win at Persisam Samarinda on June 8.
The Papuans have made a habit of blazing trails recently. Not only did they become the first side to win three league titles since Indonesian football entered its professional era in 1994, they also became the country’s first club to reach the quarterfinals of the AFC Cup. They face Iraqi club Arbil in September.

Tiago, who coached Persipura to its previous Super League title in the 2008-09 season, said he was stunned by the reception.
“This is even bigger than the first one. It’s incredible. They have really made me feel part of them,” the Brazilian said.
He added that he would love to remain with Persipura if the club still wanted him.
“I still have lots of things that I want to achieve with this club, but it will be up to the management to decide,” said the 43-year-old, whose contract expires in August.
Club manager Rudy Maswi was noncommittal on whether Tiago would get an extension.
“We want to savor this victory first,” he said. “Jacksen has proven his reputation as a great coach and a man who can be trusted. We’ll see.”
Persipura wraps up its season this week as it hosts Pelita Jaya on Thursday and Semen Padang on Sunday. Fourth-place Semen Padang travels to Persiwa Wamena on Thursday.
Last year’s champion, Arema Indonesa, continues its pursuit of second place when it hosts Persisam today. Arema is third with 46 points, trailing second-place Persija Jakarta by three points. Semen Padang also has 46 points but is fourth on goal difference.
Arema completes its season by hosting rock-bottom Bontang FC on Sunday, while Persija hosts PSPS Pekanbaru at Gelora Bung Karno on the same day.
